Abstract
Background: Malassezia Folliculitis (MF) is a skin condition caused by the Malassezia fungus, which is part of the normal skin flora. In Indonesia, MF is common due to factors such as skin hygiene, a hot and humid climate, and frequent misdiagnosis as acne. If left untreated, MF can lead to persistent infections, skin damage, and complications. Understanding the characteristics of MF is important for better prevention, treatment, and improving quality of life. Purpose: To describe the profile of patients with Malassezia Folliculitis at the Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Unit of RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya from 2020 to 2022. Methods: This retrospective descriptive study analyzed secondary data from medical records at the Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Unit of RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya for 2020-2022. Results: A total of 87 new MF patient visits were recorded, with the highest number in 2020 (50.57%). Most patients were female (50.57%) and in the late adolescent age group (17-25 years) (48.27%). The primary complaint was nodules (85.05%), and papules were the most common clinical sign (96.55%). Ketoconazole was the most commonly prescribed treatment, both systemically (74.71%) and topically (25.28%). Conclusion: Patients with MF at the Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Unit of RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya were primarily female and in the late adolescent age group. Nodules and pruritus were common symptoms, and ketoconazole was the main treatment, both systemically and topically.
